Style Guides
Split into four sections, this is a comprehensive look at everything you need to know as a member of the fed and then some. It isn't essential reading, but should help answer any questions and help give advice and ideas. The four sections are:
- The Basics: How the promotion works & how to get started
- Promos: How to best write promos in our style and their use
- Matches: How to best write matches in our style and advice
- Feuds & Storylines: How to build and sell your narratives
The Basics
What is Legacy Wrestling?
The closest term we’ve found for what we do is an angle or storyline e-fed. Members write their promos and matches out and work with other members to create storylines and feuds for their characters. There’s a new show every week to participate in, building up to a PPV event usually every five weeks, to blow off feuds at.
How does this place work if its not competitive?
While there is a slight competitive edge to Legacy (everyone wants to write the best feuds and promos), it’s more about feeling rewarded for writing well and advancing your character organically than simply out-promoing someone. That’s what keeps Legacy going, the desire to keep writing compelling stories with others.
So wins and losses don’t matter?
To some extent, no, quality writers will always get ahead despite the outcome of their matches. However, wins and losses play a part in the larger storylines and using them effectively can make your character more compelling. Shock upsets, glorious wins over rivals, tainted wins and hard-fought losses, the method and the journey is more important than simply the outcome.
So how do I win a title belt?
First, you’ll need to catch people’s attention by writing well and participating in storylines. When you do, you’ll likely find yourself up against one of the champions, sometimes slot there by management, sometimes by the champion’s request and sometimes by responding to an open challenge. You’ll discuss the outcome with the champion, but it’ll usually be his call to drop the belt.
What’s to stop someone going on a winning streak, getting all the belts and not dropping them?
Legacy is a cooperative e-fed, with emphasis on player choice. Someone with an ego demanding wins and title belts will quickly find themselves with no opponents to face. In extreme cases, staff may get involved, but in all honesty, this is not an issue that comes up in our experience. Most people who join this place understand and respect the process and are thinking about the bigger picture of what will be entertaining to read over who wins and loses.
So Legacy is run by the members?
Ideally, yes. We have staff to help maintain the boards, rosters and title histories and they can also assist in booking and finding people opponents. Don’t hesitate to ask staff for help if you need any.
How do I sign-up?
Go to the profile section here and copy and paste the Legacy Profile Template into a new topic. Fill it out and post it with the title being your character’s name. After this, you are a member of the roster and can start posting.
So what should be my first steps?
That’s up to you, but its best to introduce yourself OOC first. Feel free to make a media post about your signing too. The important thing is to start posting on the show, things like introductory promos and matches against jobbers will help show off your skills. You should end up in your first feud soon, but if there are any issues, feel free to raise it on the OOC board or via PM to a staff member. Of course, this isn’t a strict starting path, feel free to be creative with your introduction.
What if I have to take a break or leave?
Post a message about it on the OOC board. Please do attempt to write your character out if possible, and if you’re a current champion, make sure you’ve got someone ready to win the belt off you. At the very least, make us aware of your absence, otherwise we’ll allow others to write you out. Also, those who inform us of their departure and then return will be able to retain their position in the card; those who disappear will have to work their way back up.
How much can I use other people’s characters?
We want Legacy to feel as much like a real federation as possible. We encourage people to have face-to-face interactions with other characters as it helps give Legacy a different dynamic to other places. The key is to make sure your work doesn’t disrupt what that person is doing. Obviously, don’t start beating guys down or having them make decisions without their permission, and try your best to write them in-character. When it doubt, it’s best to ask. As you work with more characters, you’ll likely find those who you’ve worked with and trust you will be willing to let you do more without needing permission.
